Radeon R9 285. Go any higher and you're probably out of the zone.

i used to own an Intel Cadre 2 Quad Q9300 2.5GHz which i think it is a little better but i was non very happy with his performance in new generation games...and then in my opinion you should buy a newer CPU with a midrange GPU if you afford it and you lot will exist fine

You don't sympathize, its not a matter of playable or non, at some point you'll be throwing abroad money considering your CPU won't be able to keep up... and you as well need to "feed" information technology!

Will a gtx 960 be playable

for me definitely it will be bottlenecked...GTX 960 is new GPU and Q6600 is now 7-8 years old... so there is huge difference between them...if you buy the GTX 960 i retrieve you will get 40-50% of its truthful power

Yeah you tin can, merely you know information technology volition toll you even more. Best is wait, keep saving money and then buy everything new. Games aren't going anywhere, and they only get cheaper with fourth dimension.

Will a gtx 960 exist playable

I likewise still take a Q6600 which is still doing its task fine, you should exist able to OC information technology a bit. Didn't OC Mine much, simply 100 MHz haha. Anyways mine is paired upward with an GTX285, The GTX960 volition of course be bottlenecked past the Q6600. I advise something like a GTX660 or a 660 TI at max.

Recently breathed new life into my Q6600 by pairing it with the gtx 750ti sc. I'thousand really happy with information technology! As I accept turned 40 I a find I am playing the latest games from more like 2 years agone or more than, lol. I plan an SSD soon, merely really my Q6600 with 8GB of RAM and the 750 has me happy again. What an astonishing processor to keep us putting along in spades for and then long.

Recently breathed new life into my Q6600 by pairing it with the gtx 750ti sc. I'one thousand really happy with it! As I have turned twoscore I a find I am playing the latest games from more similar 2 years ago or more, lol. I plan an SSD presently, just really my Q6600 with 8GB of RAM and the 750 has me happy over again. What an astonishing processor to keep us putting forth in spades for so long.

I agree. Still using my Q6600 with 8GB RAM, 120GB SSD, and an ASUS GTX550Ti with 1GB on lath. Running Win eight.,1 too. Also using stock DELL XPS motherboard and CPU cooler...which works fine after a renewed thermal paste.

The biggest impacts on the upgrade were a 28 inch HD Philips LCD display (~$200), the 120GB SSD (~$100), and Windows eight.i (cost me $40).

The but gaming I do on this rig is with Earth of Tanks...which isn't too demanding....as far as gaming goes. Still, I get by with 35fps and CPU temps below 50 degrees C.

I won't be irresolute anytime soon...equally long equally the system continues to march along.

PS: I was OC to two.8Ghz for awhile...but I didn't see much difference so I went dorsum to the stock ii.4Ghz.

pretty much everything modern will not be optimized for employ with a q6600. I have a q6600 paired with a HD6750 that was leftover from my last build and it does not perform besides as information technology did when paired with an i5-2400S. Games volition nonetheless be playable, just don't expect an awesome experience. You tin can as well expect big fps drops in MOBAs.
